I am having to work on the new SharePoint site at work. My interest in web development and everything related to it has been renewed. There are some things that our SharePoint site cannot do without buying a plugin or service from a vendor. So I am back to writing some simple code to create little things on the SharePoint site. It will help with the budget at work but it is making things interesting and fun for me too.
I am going to make a lot of mistakes but that will all be part of the learning. I am using a free web hosting provider to practice on a simple website. I am doing things like using HTML code, CSS and Bootstrap to create a web page. Today I used FileZilla to first download a copy of my website to my desktop. Then I used Visual Studio Community to open the downloaded index.html file and edit it. After that I used FileZilla to upload it and overwrite the index.html file up on my website. Things actually worked! The change was saved and nothing broke! In future posts I will go into more detail but this is pretty fun and important stuff for me. I want to blog about this as kind of a diary and "engineering" notebook that I can look back on.
What is nice about documenting things in this blog is that I can then use the articles for content on my website while I am learning about coding, structure and design. At some point I would like to transfer this blog from Blogger to my own website. Blogger is great because it is free and gives me a chance to practice on content creation. I would also like to learn about WordPress too but I still want to learn web creation from the ground up by learning coding. I might end up post these articles here on Blogger, on a WordPress site and also on a "custom" website that I am coding. Looks like I have a new hobby, let's see how long it will last.
